“I think it’s important that other parents know that, actually, it’s not selfish to think of yourself and worry about yourself because you need to stay well in order to sort out your family. Parents need to just think, take stock of themselves, rather than sort of be the martyr. You don’t realise how stressed you are. You need to almost prompt yourself to say, you know, think about this, how are you feeling? How are you going manage this?”

It is really important to look after yourself. It can be easy to forget about your own needs because you are so focused on day-to-day living and your child’s needs. When you are dealing with all of the things that are demanding your immediate attention, it is hard to stop and think about yourself and what you might need.
